Project Based Learning

What is Project Based Learning?
We want our students to ask big questions! Project Based Learning is a teaching strategy that helps students gain knowledge and skills while working for an extended period of time to tackle an authentic and complex question or challenge.

In this program, learning is relevant, inquiry-based and student-centred. Learning does not happen in isolation in the world outside of school so why should it be separated in the classroom? Over the course of the academic year five PBL units (Self, Service, Social Entrepreneurship, Society, and Sustainability) bring strategic concepts and meaningful issues to life while developing important competencies in the areas of self-awareness, responsible decision-making, problem-solving and critical thinking.

  • Students are supported by a co-teaching team in their Faculty Advisory (FA)/homeroom consisting of one Humanities and one STEM specialist
  • Small FA’s of 12-15 students foster a culture of care and personalization
  • PBL programming occurs prior to lunch, with afternoons open to pursue other electives

Grade 10–12
Graduation Pathway

In Grades 10 to 12, students are able to define their own path as they pursue their interests and examine which courses, co-curriculars, and other opportunities at QMS will shape their life beyond the gates of the school. With a 30-acre campus and access to wider community, our students are able to learn by doing. Whether it is our Advanced Film & TV, Medical Sciences, Musical Theatre, Equestrian Science, Accounting and many-more courses; we encourage students to find their own path, and honour and recognize their achievements in doing so.

We offer a variety of Advancement Placement (AP) courses, based on student interest, which allows for further extension in various subjects.
