Our European adventures continued this week with a

Our European adventures continued this week with an exploration of the world-famous Pompeii, Italy.

Why is it famous? Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD covering the ancient Roman Village of Pompeii in ash. Its inhabitants, and their daily lives, have since been frozen in time. Though, it wasn't discovered until the 19th Century, and only 1/3 has been uncovered.

The students could also see live archeological digs and recently unearthed artifacts, like the lead pipes used for water and complete mosaic floors.

They ended the day in Sorrento, where they were treated to a red sky at night (sailor's delight!).

Our Founders, Norah Denny and Dorothy Geoghegan, were trailblazing pioneers who had a clear vision for creating a school where self-reliance, loyalty, honesty, good manners and respect were of paramount importance.

Over 100 years later, we continue to honour their memory on Founders' Day, April 4, 2023 at 9:00am.

We invite our alumni, former staff and current QMS families to join us in Founders' Hall for a short ceremony. However, we ask that all guests RSVP to alumni@qms.bc.ca to ensure we have enough seating in place.

There's almost too much to share about our group’s guided tour of Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, and Saint Peter's Basilica.

A state unto itself, it is rich in history, art, culture and religion. They were delighted by the work of Michelangelo, Raphael and their contemporaries.

Following that, our European travelers had the opportunity to visit the Castle Sant'Angelo, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps.

The day culminated with incredible pizza and tasty gelato! Today, the group is off to Pompeii and Sorrento.

The European adventure group experienced a little

The European adventure group experienced a little rain during their first day in Rome, but it didn’t sway these eager travelers from learning about the layered history of the city.

Through their expert guide, Lucia, an active archaeologist, students took a journey through the times of Caesar, Augustus and Titus.

They marveled at the architecture and contemplated the engineering feats of the first aqueducts and black water systems. But most of all, they all enjoyed imagining what it might have been like with 70,000 Romans seated in the coliseum for the inaugural 100 Day Games.

This event included gladiators, wild animals, the recreation of battles and criminal trials.

Learn more about our new Royals Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team!

Participants at the IEA Info Session & Prep Clinic II with Savannah Leroux will be building on the IEA and Hunt Seat Equitation topics covered in our fall seminar. This session will help inform and prepare anyone interested in joining the IEA team for 2022–2023 at QMS or the competition season in the United States.

Some topics covered and expanded upon will include tips for riding new horses, how to ride equitation classes on the flat and over fences, rider turnout, show etiquette and IEA-specific rules.

Note: Open to QMS riders in Grades 4 through 12, EC Rider Level 3 & up.
