Wrestling Season Success

By Nick Zuback, Wrestling Coach

QMS wrestlers enjoyed a successful and demanding weekend of competition, travelling to Comox on Saturday to compete in the second annual Comox Wrestling Invitational before sending a small group to Vancouver the following day for the SFU West Coast Open. Across both tournaments, QMS athletes demonstrated grit, discipline, and technical growth against strong Island and provincial competition.

At the Comox Wrestling Invitational, QMS was well represented across multiple age divisions. In the elementary and junior ranks, Amr A. (’33) earned a silver medal after a strong performance in his weight class. In the junior division (Grades 8–9), Kalem T. (’29) delivered a dominant showing, capturing gold while winning all of his matches without conceding a single point. James H. (’30) added a silver medal in the 38kg division, while Xander H. (’30) rounded out the podium with a bronze in the same weight class.

QMS senior wrestlers continued the momentum in the older divisions. Brayden Z. (’28) produced one of the tournament’s most impressive performances, winning gold in the 51kg class with every match ending by technical fall or pin. Grant P. (’27) also reached the podium, earning a silver medal in the 78kg division.

The following day, a group of QMS wrestlers competed at the SFU West Coast Open in Vancouver, an elite tournament featuring top wrestlers from across British Columbia. Competing against provincial-level opposition, QMS athletes showed they could perform on a much larger stage. Brayden Z. captured gold in the 51kg division, earning selection to Team BC and securing the opportunity to represent both QMS and the province at the prestigious Dino Open and Jurassic Classic in early January. Emma G. (’26) also delivered a strong performance, narrowly missing the podium with a fourth-place finish in a highly competitive bracket.

With strong results across Island and provincial tournaments, QMS wrestling continues to build momentum early in the season. The team now turns its attention to further training and development, including preparations for the upcoming Grit and Grind Wrestling Camp, to be held at QMS, December 28–29.
