Students Advance Innovation in Environmental Sustainability

Big ideas, real impact.

Congratulations to our two QMS representatives who made an outstanding showing at the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair at UVic.

Over two days of judging, featuring 117 judges and approximately 130 junior and senior projects from across Vancouver Island, both students earned three specialty awards each.

Supriya P. (’28) explored sustainable innovation with “Algae: A Potential Energy Source?”, earning:
• BC Nature Award ($100)
• Nature Victoria Award ($100)
• SHAD Canada Community Changemakers Award ($750 summer program scholarship)

Saoirse Mc. (’28) focused on marine conservation with “Designing Safer Ship Propellers to Reduce Whale Injury,” earning:
• Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society Award (Book Prize)
• Ocean Networks Canada Award ($100)
• Nature Victoria Award ($100)

From renewable energy to protecting marine life, these projects reflect the kind of curiosity, research, and purpose-driven learning that defines QMS.
