QMS wrestlers delivered a strong performance at the 19th Annual Miri Piri Invitational this past weekend in Abbotsford. One of the largest club tournaments in BC, the event featured nearly 400 athletes from more than 50 clubs, with competition ranging from elementary divisions through U19.
Leading the way for QMS was Brayden Z. (’28), who captured gold in the U19 boys’ 51kg division. Brayden’s championship run included a decisive victory over a previously provincial- and national-ranked opponent, highlighting his continued development at the highest level of competition. Fellow QMS athlete Kate G. (’31) also reached the top of the podium, dominating the 44kg School Girl division and winning gold without conceding a single point throughout the tournament.
QMS athletes added several stronger finishes across multiple divisions. James H. (’30) and Ella S. (’30) each earned fourth place finishes after battling through deep and competitive brackets, while Xander H. (’30) placed fifth in his division. Shanoah P. (’29) rounded out the results with a sixth-place finish, gaining valuable experience against a strong provincial field.
Overall, the tournament provided an excellent test for QMS wrestlers as they continue to prepare for the second half of the season. With multiple podium finishes and strong performances across the lineup, the Miri Piri Invitational marked another positive step forward for the QMS wrestling program.
QMS wrestlers now turn their attention to upcoming competitions, including the Campbell River Invitational this Saturday, January 17.
