QMS Marks Remembrance Day

By Isabelle W. (’26)

November 7th, 2024, marked the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony at Queen Margaret’s School, a yearly celebration of the countless lives lost serving our country. This year’s gathering included junior cadets representing in uniform, an exquisite band directed by Ms. Hounsome, and emotional readings from the Prefect Council. A somber tone was set from the start, respect and tranquility rippling through the crowd.

A nostalgic trumpet performance reminded us all of what sound the soldiers woke up to each and every day while fighting for our freedoms. The classic In Flanders Fields by John McCrae was read aloud with passion and vigor, allowing a glimpse into an extremely harsh reality many soldiers endured for years. The peaceful, heartwarming pieces performed by the band were the perfect accompaniment to the solemn nature of the event. Many commented on how it was “a beautiful commemoration and recognition of the numerous people who dedicated their lives to protecting our country”.

Notably this year some community members were able to join in on the gathering, expanding the attendance from purely QMS participants. With utmost respect, a moment of silence commenced, allowing for thoughtful and quiet reflection for the souls lost to the war. Organized by the Prefect Council and Administration, it truly was a lovely tribute to the countless brave men and women who served.
