The QMS Senior Boys are headed to the 1A Provincial Championships for the first time in school history after capturing bronze at the 1A Island Championships, a four-day showcase of defensive grit and timely shooting.
The Senior Boys opened the tournament with a commanding 87–47 win over Maaqtusiis. Crisp ball movement and relentless defense set the tone early, as the Royals surged to a 40-point victory. Joeffrey T. (’29) was named Player of the Game.
In the semifinal, the Royals met provincially ranked No. 2 Ucluelet, ultimately falling 61–50 in a tightly contested defensive battle. Despite the loss, the Royals held one of the province’s top offences to one of its lowest outputs of the season. Ethan C. (’26) earned Player of the Game honours.
With their season on the line, the Royals rebounded in a 72–65 challenge-game win over DCS. Backed by a vocal home crowd, the team maintained composure down the stretch. Darren L. (’26) was recognized as Player of the Game.
The bronze medal matchup against No. 2 Island-ranked NCS proved decisive. The Royals executed disciplined, team-first basketball to secure a 79–64 victory, pulling away in the final quarter and Jack Z. (’26) was named Player of the Game.
Congratulations to Darren L. and Ethan C. who were named as Tournament All Stars!
The third-place finish earns the Royals an official berth at the Provincial Championships in Langley, marking an historic milestone for our QMS basketball program. This is our School’s very first invitation to the BC Championships!
