Our Cowichan Youth Festival of the Arts (CYFA) kicked off this morning, marking its third year of celebrating creativity, expression, and student voice. CYFA is a two-day, student passion–led festival that brings young people together through the power of art—and this year’s opening set the bar high.
More than 50 student volunteers spent months collaborating behind the scenes to bring CYFA 2026 to life, and their dedication showed in every detail. From the hard-hitting guitar riffs of local band Spector and joyful musical performances by our Junior School students, to Adage’s hip-hop crew energizing the crowd and an animated film by alumni Aliyah Ewart (’25), guests were launched on an inspiring creative journey from the very start.
Throughout the day, students explored hands-on experiences across campus—experimenting in culinary and pottery workshops, testing their tire-changing speed in the Automotive Restoration shop, singing loud and proud at karaoke, or settling in for quieter crafting moments. With so many ways to participate, there truly was something for everyone. We hope CYFA encourages students to step beyond their comfort zones and discover joy, confidence, and connection through new forms of creativity.
