At QMS, all students are encouraged to be active, explore new sports, and develop into well-rounded student-athletes. Our student-centered programs cultivate courageous, compassionate, and confident leaders through meaningful, community-based athletic experiences. We challenge our students to reach their potential by committing to their sport, teammates, coaches and themselves.

Our goal is to foster lifelong physical activity and athleticism, with our sports programs serving as a foundation for this journey. QMS offers both competitive teams and non-competitive club options, working closely with the Duncan and Cowichan Valley community to enhance our programming. Our coaching staff not only teach technical sports skills but also instill core values such as teamwork, kindness, courage, and self-reflection.
Students engage in a variety of physical education classes during the school day, while our co-curricular sports program runs after school from Monday to Friday. Within this program, students have the opportunity to try out for the Royals Athletic competitive teams, which compete in the Vancouver Island Secondary Schools Athletic Association (VISSAA) and British Columbia School Sport (BCSS) systems.
Royals Athletics
QMS offers 14 competitive sports over the three school terms. For students wishing for a noncompetitive environment, there are a variety of sport club activities to choose from.

Strength in Community
QMS is proud to be a part of the Duncan community, fostering strong partnerships with local organizations such as Cowichan Wrestling, Duncan Badminton Club, Cowichan Rugby Club, Cowichan Track Club, and the Hang Out Climbing Centre. We are fortunate to have both Duncan Meadows Golf Club and Cowichan Valley Golf Club close by.
Our mountain biking access is unparalleled. The Cowichan Valley is home to some of the best mountain biking parks in BC, with Mount Tzouhalem, Maple Mountain and Mount Prevost within minutes of the school. Our commitment extends to supporting athletes involved in competitive swimming, rowing, gymnastics and other club sports, ensuring a vibrant and connected athletic community.

Service & Leadership
At QMS Athletics, we offer students the chance to take on leadership roles within our athletics department and to volunteer at school events. Our senior athletes play a vital role by assisting with coaching and refereeing for younger grades. This mentorship fosters a strong sense of school culture and camaraderie, building connections and community among students.
